The Robins of 2026

The Rehoboth robins are very determined, especially at the final stage of the nesting and birthing season.

We realised last year that robins like to nest in our stone shelter.

In 2025 they chose a very sensible location, this year they have chosen a nest site next to a fire extinguisher and rather too close to our kettle.

Their very effective tactic is to fly close to you (if you are in their territory) and flap their wings fast and furious.

On the afternoon of Sunday 19th April, we admitted defeat and abandoned for the session the stone shelter so the robins could ferry worms and insects to the nest.

We will see what tomorrow brings……probably a further victory for the robins.

May Update:

The following three weeks did see uninterrupted victories for the robins and the first appearances of the three fledgelings.

Following the baby robins transformation from nestlings to fledglings, the parents have built a temporary second nest just inside the eaves and vacated the birthing nest next to our kettle and fire extinguisher!

Each year we are surprised how much bigger the fledgelings are than their parents, and without the red breast until they are a bit older.

The new nest is more convenient for both robins and volunteers, so a good harmonious ending.

Father, Mother and first Fledgeling.

Three hungry babies.

Guarding the nest.
