Sedums installed - Thanks Leeds Community Foundation

To date in 2025 we have undertaken two major grant funded projects.

Firstly in February, (funded by Wade’s Charity) we completed the installation of four long metal handrails to aid the accessibility of our all-weather footpaths, a secondary project of priming and coating will commence next month, supported by corporate volunteers as a Tuesday activity.

Secondly last week saw the preparation, delivery, placement and installation of Sedums. We have reported over the past few months on our project to first successfully test and then expand the adoption of Sedums as an alternative covering for graves to both turf and limestone chippings.

A Sedum is a low maintenance multi season flowering plant carpet on a fibrous base that was pioneered for placing on high buildings and stone or metal roofs. We have introduced Sedums as an alternative covering for graves to both turf and limestone chippings.

Preparation and immediacy of planting is critical for this project, with the last few days of April regarded as highly suitable. Accordingly we undertook a three day (Friday 25th to Sunday 27th April) span to successfully install the Sedums, please come and have a look and pass on your thoughts.

Thanks to all who took part in this work which involved some very heavy lifting and strenuous cutting to size.

Once again, we thank Leeds Community Foundation for providing grant funding for this project and also for the two Solar Powered installations.
