Our 23 War & Remembered Graves

The Rehoboth has been officially designated as a Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery since the 1920’s and is one of 13,000 registered locations in the United Kingdom; it contains eight registered War Graves of people who died in the United Kingdom.

In addition we have identified fifteen Remembered Graves that carry an inscription to a family member who died in service overseas.

One of our first joint actions with the CWGC was to have a “Commonwealth War Graves” sign attached to the right hand gate pillar. Memorial poppies and wreaths are placed on the gates and graves during the annual Remembrance period in October/November, in conjunction with the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

On 11th  November 2019 our first Armistice Day service was held, officiated by Reverend Paul Tudge and with Regimental standards on display. Click here to view the BBC’s coverage of Armistice Day at Farsley Rehoboth 2019.

Thursday, November 11th 2021, saw a well attended and moving remembrance service for Armistice Day attended by Jon Hammond-Booth, DL. Deputy Lord Lieutenant, West Yorkshire and officiated by Reverend Gareth Howles with Bugler, Darren Walker playing. We had young attendees from Valley View School, All Stars Nursey and students from West SILC, all of whom participated in wreath laying and the placement of poppies on our War and Remembered Graves. Our gate poppies and two framed poems by Emma Hogarth have attracted a lot of interest and visitors.  Emma read her new remembrance poem during the service, this is also shown below.

To quote Jon Hammond-Booth DL:

“An honour to attend @farsleyrehoboth on Armistice Day  on behalf of @LordLtWY to commemorate the fallen. A touching service and hugely impressed with the way that volunteers have cleared up an overgrown cemetery into something very special.”

Please view the video of our 2019 Armistice Day service, slideshows from our 2021 and 2022 Armistice Day services are shown in “News Items” Our printed Orders of Service for 2019, 2021 and 2022 are included below.

Our first War Grave, that of Arthur Hainsworth Wade is just inside the entrance, and features a plaque from his work colleagues in Australia. We are grateful to a CWGC team who re-gilded the lettering on this grave in summer 2019.
