Our Plaque is Unveiled

30th July 2023 saw the presentation and unveiling of our Pudsey & District Civic Society Commemorative Plaque. It is placed on the wall of our memorial shelter and is a very visible feature to our entrance area.

Since our purchase of the Rehoboth and the commencement in 2019 of the reclamation, we have been supported by Pudsey & District Civic Society, and thank them for their assistance and generosity.

We were delighted to welcome so many volunteers and supporters to the event and thank Pam Smith (Pudsey & District Civic Society) and our own Chairperson and Treasurer, Richard Hainsworth for their speeches and undertaking the unveiling, the speeches can be heard on the link above the photographs.

The plaque which matches an existing one on the Bagley Lane side of the Old Chapel, recognises the history and heritage of the Rehoboth and the contribution of all our volunteers since the reclamation commenced. We started the transformation of the Rehoboth from being known as “The Jungle” to what is now a community asset and a site of heritage and an ecological wonderland.

The weather held off (fairly unusual for July 2023) so that the attendees were able to have refreshments, formal and informal tours after the unveiling and view the new work from the last few months. At the same our first Rehoboth Reindeer assembly workshop was held next to the Plaque as the 2023 herd started to be assembled.

The attached photographs includes one of our younger volunteers fixing the head on to a reindeer.

Thanks also to The Squeaker which featured these photographs in their August 2023 edition, we have copies available on request.
